Thumbs up for great service!

hand

We got great news in May 2014 when we were successful in the re-accreditation of our Customer Service Excellence award. The assessor visited us for two days and was very pleased with the evidence that he found and with the people he met on his visit. Some of the main points that came out in the feedback were:

• We know our customers and their needs and preferences very well
• We put great effort into engaging with hard to reach groups and demonstrate good strategies for this
• We consult with learners to ensure that we continuously improve the service that we offer

He was very impressed with our Love to learn scheme, our range of partners, and how we work closely from a strategic to delivery level. He also expressed delight in the new website and how we had involved users in the development of the site and future features that are in progress.

His feedback also made reference to the excellent tutors and staff that we have and the relationship that is very apparent with our learners. A special mention was made to our Chaplain, Gavin Wort and also to the Police for the work that they undertake in College and the support given as a Safe Reporting Centre.

The assessor did give us a couple of areas where we can make some improvements, such as keeping our display areas up to date, and we will be working on those too.

Our Skills for Life team are currently looking for volunteers to support our learners in their English and maths classes. Our learners have a wide range of abilities, which means that volunteering is interesting, challenging and rewarding. Sessions are held at the Heaton Centre, Trewhitt Road Heaton and also at Westgate College, on the West Road.

If you would be interested in volunteering, and want to know what it involves, please contact Gill Thompson at the Heaton Centre on 0191 2782822.
